About our Speed Section Control
Speed section control (or Average speed control) reduces the number of speed offences efficiently. This module allows to measure the average speed of a vehicle between two defined points on a road section. A minimum distance between the two points is required and depends on speed.
By dividing for each vehicle the travel time between the two points by the distance, a precise average speed can be calculated and then compared to the speed limit.
Once there is an infraction, i.e. a vehicle is over-speeding despite deduction of a defined tolerance value, an enforcement file is created including all required information (e.g. license plate and pictures of the vehicle at each point, time stamps, measured average speed against the official speed limit, etc.).
Data is fully encrypted and the file can be sent automatically to a central management system according to the pre-defined workflow.
Another advantage of the average speed measurement system is it's perceived to be more ‘honest’ for drivers, especially on a long distance, than a classic spot speed radar. It's also reducing speeding on roads more efficiently.
With Speed Section Control, you’re not just enforcing speed limits, you’re creating safer roads and protecting every road user. Drivers experience a fair, transparent system, while authorities gain precise, reliable data to act effectively. Reduce accidents, improve compliance, and foster a culture of safer driving making your roads safer, communities happier, and cities smarter.
⚠️ Important: This module only works with our dedicated QCAM Average Speed Camera, ensuring full compatibility and precision.
Main characteristics
1. Precision Average Speed Enforcement
Our Speed Section Control module calculates a vehicle’s average speed between two defined points, using exact travel time and distance measurements. Unlike classic spot radars that only capture instantaneous speed, this system ensures fair, reliable, and consistent enforcement, reducing the risk of sudden braking or “accordion effect” traffic phenomena.
By measuring speed over a distance, the system is perceived as more honest by drivers, encouraging safer driving behavior and reducing speeding more effectively. Authorities gain precise, actionable data to enforce compliance, while road users experience transparent and predictable speed control, creating safer roads and communities.
3. Fully Integrated & Automated Workflow
Once a violation occurs, the module generates an enforcement file containing all necessary information—license plates, timestamps, speed measurements, and images at each control point. Data is fully encrypted and automatically sent to a central management system, with optional integration into higher-level traffic systems or databases, making enforcement efficient, secure, and seamless.
The module works exclusively with our QCAM Average Speed Camera, guaranteeing maximum precision and full compatibility. Optional embedded modules allow vehicle classification, make/model recognition, and color identification, while mobility data can be combined with our M³ platform for analytics like travel time, vehicle counts, and origin-destination matrices. This makes the system flexible, scalable, and future-ready, surpassing competitors’ solutions.
