Big news! The very first radar for checking railway crossings has been installed in Belgium!
Whenever you’re at a railway crossing and a train is approaching, the barriers will close and the lights will turn red. This obviously means that it’s prohibited to cross the railway crossing. However, it seems that numerous pedestrians, cyclists and drivers tend to ignore the red light and closed barriers and cross the railway crossing anyway. In 2020 this was the cause for more than half of the traffic accidents on these locations.
Reason enough to start handling this very severe problem. In Dendermonde, Belgium, the very first Railway Crossing Solution has been implemented!
It involves an intelligent camera/radar which is very specific in detecting violations with red lights, which recognizes number plates en continuously scans the vehicles passing by.
